Transformers Studio Series The Movie Megatron Leader Class 8.5-Inch Converting Action Figure

Fantastic figure. Easily the best official Hasbro/Takara Megatron figure. Solidly built, enjoyable transformation, scales with other mainline figures, and is just a delight to mess around with on a lazy afternoon. Comes with a minigun mode so you can pose Megatron “playing with himself”. Scale fits well with the current Legacy/Earthrise/Studio Series figures.

This Megatron is probably the best we’ve ever seen in a mainline release, even better than the G1 original, at least from a cartoon fan’s point of view. The robot mode is perfect, feeling so close to the original cartoon and movie that you can’t even tell the alt mode isn’t the original blaster. The robot mode also has great possibilities in poses and I love bending the fingers for added expression to a pose.The alt mode is a tank, and I know many fans aren’t happy about that, but we also know there’s nothing Hasbro can do to give us the alt mode we want. Now that’s out of the way, I have to say it’s a great alt mode for the most part, fun to transform. As I said earlier, I love that I can’t tell he transforms into the tank. The only downside is that the tank turret only looks right when facing forward or turned 45 degrees or less.Personally, I don’t think this is the best Transformer for little kids because it’s a fairly complex transformation, but I don’t feel the target audience is really young kids in the first place; more like adults who grew up with the series. I would say someone around 8+ would be able to handle the transformation, and probably 6-7 could handle it with an adult’s help for some of the steps.I definitely had a lot of fun with this, taking me back to my childhood, even though my wife disapproved of my making sound effects while playing and posing him with other Transformers. can’t tell the alt mode isn’t the original blaster.As for the alt mode it’s a tank and I know that a lot of fans are unhappy about that but we also all know their is nothing Hasbro could do to give us the alt mode we want. As far as I’m concerned your never too old to go pew, pew, and make explosion sounds. Definitely worth every penny of the price for the nostalgic value as well being the figure I wish we got when I was a kid.

After a long wait since my pre-order, my copy of Studio Series 86 Megatron is here! As expected, his appearance looks very close to how he looked in the 1980s animated cartoon and movie. I know there are complaints about his lower legs being tinted a bit blue instead of being a slightly dark gray, but that doesn’t really bother me all that much. The crafting and small details are just so astonishing. Despite being the taller figure, he weighs somewhat lighter than 86 Prime, but the plastic quality still feels solid. The articulation is mostly similar, especially with the fingers and butterfly shoulder joints, but the legs are definitely where the slight difference comes in. With having longer legs, the posing for this figure can be quite fun to mess with, making him look a bit more dynamic compared to Prime. The transformation steps can be a bit complex and may take some time getting used to. The tank form is not really the best looking alt mode compared to some of the previous versions of this classic g1 design. It could’ve looked better, but it still looks good even with the slightly off light-colored cannon nozzle. For a leader class budget figure, I also would’ve expected a few additional accessories such as the iconic mace flail, but I guess that’d be asking for too much. These few complaints however are outweighed by the positives I have mentioned with the accuracy, articulation and engineering, and I was so lucky to have purchased this figure at a good pre-order price before it sold out. Not perfect, but it’s still a great figure to add to the Transformers collection!

(husband's review)-wow best mainline Megs ever (imo). All controversy and strong feelings aside about this figure, this rivals any mainline Megatron. Great articulation and transformation! And a brand new mold (with no quality issues at least on my copy) is refreshing to see! Accessories are amazing, love the extra "alt mode" blaster and his lazer sword. Fusion cannon doesn't size up well proportion wise, but it is good! He's legit, he's the dominator, he's Megatron! Any concerns about him were gone the moment he was in hand. Don't know how they'll top this one in the future.

Hasbro almost has it. In robot mode, SS86 Megs looks really good. The proportions, cleanliness of transformation, and articulation are all really good. Joints are snug, and it's a very poseable figure. The lack of facial expression, cartoon inaccurate cannon, and the weird blue-grey paint on the shins are the biggest detractors of this figure. However, the leader class price for this figure is worth it compared to the various Siege, and Earthrise offerings in the past. Definitely pick this one up if you are an official collector.
